A Time For Giving

Christmas is the time for giving. I am looking forward to writing a check to the organization I support that helps rescue young women off the street that have been entangled in a life of human trafficking. Ten percent of every sale of Tookie Trinkets jewelry or crocheted items is given to help fund a safe haven for these young women.

I'm happy to announce that Tookie Trinkets will now be for sale at the Mabel Tainter Theater Gift Shop in Menomonie Wisconsin! You can view some earring styles using vintage beads that will be available. Most earrings are priced at $15.00.

I will also be adding a case full of Tookie necklaces, bracelets and more earrings at the end of May to the Tainter Gift shop. More pics and details to come!

Time to relax and think

Everyone needs a break from the normal grind of life. I think that's why holidays are so important. We all need time to relax. Yesterday afternoon, I choose to relax with a hook in my hand. I finished this doily while watching A Christmas Carol.

While stitching I thought of the meaning of that show....giving...sharing a purpose and the true meaning of Christmas is life changing.

May we all like Scrooge come to.."keep Christmas well," in our hearts all year long.

Preparations

I am getting my home ready for my open house tomorrow. The floors are vacuumed, the lights are shining, my usual mess is organized, double chocolate brownies are baking in the oven and displays of jewelry and crocheted items have overtaken my house. I'm loving it!

After my open house I will put a few special items on my blog for sale. Look for rings, pins, necklaces, earrings and bracelets.

June Winter Wear?

Winter wear in June? Yup that's right. I am stitching away, coming up with new designs in hats and scarves for fall and winter. This hat incorporates the all popular African Flower motif that is the craze in the crochet world. I thought it made a great top for a beanie hat that is warm yet fun.

Here are a few other types of designs.....

This fun stripey set is done in bright Stitch Nation wool.

This soft wool set is done in a fun style with rounded puff motifs and flower accents.

This set, stitched in a shell pattern is a lovely variegated blend of burgundy, pink and browns.

This month's specials feature jewelry items made with durable and beautiful brass.

I especially like to use natural antiqued brass from the Vintaj company, it gives a great vintage feel to jewelry pieces.

Natural brass should not tarnish. It may lighten over time to a bit brighter patina. Buff slightly with a soft cloth to keep brass looking great.

A great site on the web to get involved in making a difference in people's lives around the world is Free The Slaves. You can read stories of survivors, find how people are being rescued now and donate to this great organization.

They also have an online store in which you can also buy items made directly from those rescued from human trafficking. Profits go directly to survivors to help them earn a livelihood and stay free.

I am venturing in the land of on-line sales. I wasn't sure how much viewing I would receive on a regular website so I decided to go with Etsy. If you are unfamiliar with Etsy, it is a website that offers all handmade or vintage goods for sale.

Esty sort of acts as an online art/craft fair and a consignment shop all in one. You can find every kind of craft/art/handmade item on Etsy. You buy directly from the seller according to how they have determined payment and shipping will be handled. Most transactions are handled through PayPal, although you do not have to have a PayPal account to purchase items on Etsy.

The first showing.....

fun and facts.

My launch showing with my business partner was an evening to remember. The shimmer of silk, the extravagance of cashmere and the lure of jeweled trinkets gave a bit of glamor and fun to every lady there. Our gracious hostess opened her home to give us our first party in which to share some beautiful scarves and jewelry pieces with women and also some pieces of awareness about human trafficking, that are cold, ugly facts.
We had the opportunity to share our hearts and our passion to make a difference with what we can do and hopefully inspire women to make a difference right where they are at and not be overwhelmed by the hugeness of the task. One person can bring change, just as one spark can light a fire.

It is my desire to add a little splash of beauty to the lives of women and remind them that they are royalty. The cascade of silk over a shoulder and the shimmer of a piece of jewelry can give a little sparkle to our days and remind us that we are all special and unique. I want women to know how unique and special they are and how powerful they can be.

It is my hope by selling jewelry and partnering with a friend who sells beautiful scarves to remind women of their beauty and royal quality which can empower them to make a difference in another life as well.

A Few Small Things

Have you ever noticed how a few small things can make a difference? That little bit of extra salt in soup adds so much flavor, a quick kiss from a loved one can brighten a whole day, a handshake between enemies can open the door for peace and faith as small as a mustard seed can move mountains.

It is my hope that these small items will be the seed money for something larger. I love to create jewelry designs and have always thought about selling them, but didn't want to pursue that avenue just for some extra cash. This last year I was impressed by the inspiration of other women to make a difference in our world by doing what they are called to and doing what they love. So here I am selling some small things to do what I can to make a difference. I know what I am doing is small, but every small step adds up and I am counting that my effort will be blessed.

I've started here with just a few things for sale on my blog. I have lots more. I will be hosting some local showings with a friend these next few months. After that new experience is done I plan on posting a lot more items to choose from on my blog, including some one of a kind crochet pieces.
